    • Although the OC coming in does not directly means the Nissans are going out the next day...

      Yes, it is however time as the lifetime would be expiring soon.

      Nissan U31 RCN

      Series U/UA31 of Nissan Spacerunner.

      First produced in 1980 Japan Domestic Market.

      N denotes 5.5 meters wheelbase.

      Length 12 meters

      Width 2.5 meters

      Nissan Diesel PE6H engine, longitudinal mount, 230PS (226 bhp), Japan calendar Showa 54 (1980) emission regulations.

      Fuji Heavy Industries R15/5E bodywork. Do note that FHI no longer produces bus bodyworks as of 2003.

      ZF4HP500 gearbox.

    • Hmmm... when were the Nissan Diesel U31 RCN buses introduced? 1991 or 1993?

      Depending on whether they get a lifespan extension or not, they may not be going this soon yet.

      1993, i believe. It's 15 years old, compared to the more modern looking 17-19 years old O405 SBST mercs.

      If they get lifespan extension - > there may be a flame war to SMRT erupting.angel.png

    • Haha, actually I am quite puzzled after finding information and some research into the Spacerunner series.

      It is really a mystery why did a 1980s chassis end up in a 1993 order for buses. Was it a specific request or some bargain off chassis? For the more I love about the U31 buses, the more intriguing it becomes...

      U/UA31 production only lasted four years. The series was then replaced by U/UA32 in 1984 conforming to the Showa 58 (1984) emission regulations.

      The R15/5E bodywork is something of 1980s, man, it just brings back memories of the B57 and their friends...

    • Dear Bus Fans,

                          My opinion to what i posted,is that i got a feeling that SMRT company will de-register the bus,as there are many complains made my passengers.

      Your Sincerely,

      Roderick(2695H say must post formaly,formal right?)-.-"

    • SMRT will de-register them, but i do find some of the buses - the OACs in fact, quite ok. CACs can be taken out first.

      Unique points about the Nissan

      -> Seating arrangement -> near the rear door

      -> bodywork looking older

      -> Japanese public bus

      -> One of TIBS first starting bus model before purchasing European chassis.

      -> Comfy Spring suspension? boing boing boing rattle rattle.

      Lolx... I used to complain about Nissan UDs on Service 920 and 921 until SMRT changed back its fleets back to the original ones..

      Well, as much as I hate these buses, there are times when I'm cool about their deployment. I will absolutely hate them if they are deployed regularly (especially on busy routes during peak hours), but if thet are deployed on off-peak hours on less busy routes, I won't mind the occasional ride on one of these buses. These buses are truely unique on our roads, old and outdated as they are.

      Of course, for some people, any sort of deployment on any of their favourite routes is a major no-no.

      I heard from somewhere that the Land Transport Authority is allowing bus companies to keep their old buses longer while they expand and renew their fleet in order to meet the new headway requirements; this with the fact that SMRT doesn't have enough buses may mean that at least a few examples have their lifespan extended. Didn't one go for some major air-conditioner work recently?

      TIB368Y had it's advert removed. Should be one step closer to the chopping board for the poor fellow. Those with adverts will not deregister so soon till their contract expires with the advertisers.

    • if orders of OC500LE registered buses sent to WLDEP, 178 might use them or as for 187, maybe cameo nia.
